Privacy policy
How Quetzal Labs handles personal information on askbutterfly.com. Butterfly and Chameleon are products of Quetzal Labs.
01Who we are
This website is run by Quetzal Labs and its group companies ("Quetzal Labs", "we", "us"). We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy. For anything about privacy, email privacy@askbutterfly.com.
02What we collect
When you try the demo. The website address you type in. We then read public information about that business, such as its website, public reviews, social profiles and news mentions, and, for a UK business, its entry on the public Companies House register (we search the register for the business’s name, or look up the company number its website shows). This is information about a business, not about you, but it can include names of people who work there where they appear publicly, including the directors the register lists.
When you contact us or book a call. Your name, work email, company, phone number if you give it, the topic and the time you choose, and anything you type.
When you leave your email in the demo. Your email, the website you read, and what you asked for: to keep what the demo found (a short note of it, facts about the business only), to hear when a tool can connect (which one), or an answer to a question the demo couldn't answer (the question). We use it to get in touch when your account can open, and to answer you. Nothing is sent to you when you leave it.
When you use the data partnerships tools. The figures and answers you enter, your contact details, and the name of any file you attach. Estimates are worked out in your browser.
Technical information. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested and time) to keep the site secure and working. With anything you send us through a form or the demo, we also keep the IP address and browser it came from, to prevent abuse.
03How we use it
To run the demo and show you what Butterfly would do for your business.
To reply to you, arrange calls, send estimates and counter-offers you ask for.
To keep the site secure, prevent abuse and fix problems.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use it for advertising, and we do not use what you enter on this site to train AI models.
04Our legal bases
Where UK or EU data protection law applies, we rely on our legitimate interests in running and securing the website and in responding to business enquiries, and on steps taken at your request before entering into a contract. Where we need your consent, we will ask for it.
05Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers who process information on our behalf:
Hosting, to serve the website and keep logs.
Our research server (Fly.io, London), to read the public pages of the website you enter and fetch its logo, and to fetch the pictures the read finds, so your browser gets them from us: photographs of a few of its pages, the ads it runs (or, when it runs none, a nearby business's), and the photos and posts on its Google listing and Instagram. What it reads, pictures included, is kept for 24 hours, so a repeat is instant, then deleted.
SearchAPI, to find the business on Google Maps, Google search and Google News, its photos on Google Maps, its posts on Instagram, and the ads it (or a nearby business) runs in Google's and Meta's public ad libraries.
Google (Gemini), to summarise what the business's own pages say and write the demo's examples.
Firecrawl, to read a page when a website turns away an ordinary request, and to photograph a few of the website's pages.
Composio, which keeps the sign-in for each account you connect to Butterfly through Composio, after you've saved an account. For those connections, we hold only a reference.
Our email and booking tools, to receive and answer your messages.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or with a buyer if our business is reorganised.
06International transfers
Our providers may process information outside your country, including in the United States. Where this happens we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
07How long we keep it
What the demo reads is kept for 24 hours, then deleted, unless you leave your email to keep what it found: then a short note of it is kept with your email. Enquiries, bookings, estimates and what you leave in the demo are kept for up to 24 months after our last contact, unless we go on to work together. Server logs are kept for up to 30 days.
08Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask to see, correct, delete or receive a copy of your information, object to or restrict how we use it, and withdraw consent. If you are in California you can ask what we collect and ask us to delete it; we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context advertising.
To use any of these rights, email privacy@askbutterfly.com. You can also complain to your data protection regulator, for example the ICO in the UK.
09Children
This site is for businesses and is not aimed at children under 16.
